Blog Content

You don’t want any blog content, you want specialist content with a strategy, optimised for Google.

There are a million outlets where you can buy blog content and I’ve tried many of them over the years, but how does Google treat poor content?

It ignores or penalises it!

This is my proven 5-Step strategy for creating blog content, with a short description for each step.

1. Keyword Research

The most important first step is targeting good value keywords.

You don’t want to spend time writing articles for the fun of it, you want to generate traffic to your site from long tail search terms.

If you don’t know how to discover great keywords, read this keyword research article.

2. Competition Analysis

In order to write blog articles that rank, you need to know what your competition has created for the same search terms.

I search the Top 10 Google results and analyse each listings content.

I’m interested in the number of words the average top 10 article has, how many topics the #1 article covers, the use of visual elements like images and infographics as well as UX design for the article.

I never assume just because I’m targeting a long tail search term it will be easy.

I want to know exactly what is required to improve the content value by at least 50%.

3. Content Development

Each blog article I create is a minimum 500 words.

I’m not suggesting the amount of words is the most important aspect when determining value, but it’s a yardstick for how much content I need to create to deliver MORE value.

Blog Content SEO Elements

  • Optimised Page Title for CTR
  • Optimised Description Tag for CTR
  • H1 & H2 Headings
  • Mobile friendly structure
  • Visual elements (images etc)
  • LSI Keywords for SEO
  • Engagement for Dwell Time

By including these elements I’m confident the blog content will offer website visitors and search engines excellent value.

This results in front page rankings or worst case, a strong foundation to build upon to get front page rankings.

4. Authority Hub

Using blog content to build an authority hub around your core search terms tells Google you are an Authority source.

If you are targeting “cars for sale” for example, you build an Authority page targeting the term and back it up with specialised blog content.

Your blog content strategy would include long tail terms like “passenger cars for sale, sports cars for sales, commercial says for sale” etc.

The more LSI keywords you build content for around your core search term, the better your Site Rank and Authority Score.

5. Consistency

Creating fresh, quality blog content tells Google you are an industry voice.

By consistently delivering content Google will return to your site more often, rank your articles quicker and deliver higher rankings.

Your visitors will also return more often and stay for longer, increasing dwell time and return visits. Two elements critical for overall Google Site Rank scores.

Don’t think of blog content as low quality or cheap content, if you’re going down that road you’re better off not adding content at all.

Google will penalise you for poor content, fact.

Don’t outsource your content to a company based on price alone, 9 times out of 10 you’ll be throwing money away.

It’s worth paying a little extra to get quality content.

You want to create blog content with a big picture strategy in mind, that ranks for long tail search terms and delivers ongoing traffic.
